My Premier League Team of the season 2008-09

Well what a Premier League season it has been, so many great players, in what many consider to be the best league in the world. This makes it all the more difficult to pick a team of the season, but here’s who I thought should be in such a team (sorry about the formatting):

Mark Schwarzer

Not a “big four” keeper, but he did better than those other keepers in comparison and is one of hte key reasons for Fulham doing so well this season. His ability to make crucial saves and keep clean sheets meant that he topped the Premier League fantasy game for most points by a goalkeeper.

Nemanja Vidic

4210613

An absolute rock at the back for the champions, especially in the air where he never gave the other strikers an inch. He also scored some important goals from set pieces. It is little wonder that he was voted Man Utd player of the year by his Red Devil peers.

Brage Hangeland

5724874

What Vidic did for Man Utd, Hangeland did for Fulham. He is another key player for Fulham, one of the main reason for the team concedin so few goals this campaign. It is little wonder than Arsenal are looking to sign him.

Joleon Lescott

Lescott the nonsense left-back for the Toffees with another outstanding season.

Jose Bosingwa

Apart from a few poor games has been very solid at right back. His ability going forward going down the right wing is great as well and provides Chelsea with an extra spark.

Cristiano Ronaldo

This man needs no introduction. Didn’t reach the heights of last season, but after a slow start, he almost topped the goal charts.

Steven Gerrard

Liverpool’s heartbeat, their inspirational captain could not put a foot wrong, but couldn’t quite land silverware. Another shoo-in for this team.

Frank Lampard

Twelve goals and ten assists this season, one of ths shining lights for Chelsea in an otherwise disappointing season. Performed consistently with several man of the match performances.

Xabi Alonso

Is the forgotten hero of Liverpool sometimes, with Gerrard and Torres often making all the headlines. Brilliant defensively in his role protecting the back four, but equally good going up front such is his style of play. Highly underrated.

Fernando Torres

Even being out with injury for a few games, he still managed fourteen goals. Liverpool just isn’t the same without him and he has shown why this season.

Nicholas Anelka

Finished top scorer. Was a favourite under Scolari, but under Hiddink he was initally left in the outer. Finished the season strongly though, with goals in five consecutive games, finishing with a tally of 19.
