A new president, but what does it mean for football?

A week ago today, we witnessed incredible scenes around the world as the first black president was elected in the USA. Me and my colleague were strong supporters of Barack Obama, and naturally we were elated with his election. The side turned professional just 5 years later and shortened their name to Woolwich Arsenal. They joined the Football League in 1893 but had to then wait 30 years before winning their first major title. Now their trophy cabinet contains 5 League titles and 2 FA Cups.

Asian Champions League Preview

by Martin Sejas

The final of the Asian Champions League (ACL) is set to take place in the coming days and is set to be a spectacular final. Unlike the UEFA Champions League, the final is played over 2 legs (5 and 12 November) with the team scoring the most amount of goals over both legs being declared the winner. This is, however, changing in 2009 with Japan hosting a one-game final on “neutral territory”.

This year’s final involves an unsung and unlikely club from the AFC’s newest member, Adelaide United, and one of the pretenders in Japanese football in Gamba Osaka.
